Reigning Sabalenka Secures Back-to-Back WTA Top Player Accolades.
The top-ranked player Aryna Sabalenka has been selected the Women's Tennis Association player of the year for a second straight season.
The 27-year-old won four titles – the most on tour – which included successfully defending the US Open this past September versus Amanda Anisimova to earn her fourth Grand Slam singles triumph.
A Season of Dominance
Throughout the year, Sabalenka played in a tour-best nine championship matches, with defeats coming to Madison Keys in the Australian Open final at the start of the year and Coco Gauff in June's French Open final.
The Belarusian also triumphed at the Brisbane International in January, the Miami Open in March, and the Madrid Open as the clay season progressed. She remained the whole season as the world number one, ending 2025 on top of the rankings for a second straight year.
This past summer, she became the first player to top 12,000 WTA ranking points since Serena Williams did so nearly a decade ago.
Record-Breaking Numbers
Sabalenka ended the season with a 63-12 match record, and collected a record £11m in tournament winnings.
She earned nearly 80% of the votes submitted by international tennis media.
Later this month, she is poised to compete against 2022 Wimbledon finalist Nick Kyrgios in a high-profile mixed-gender exhibition match in a bid to "elevate women's tennis to a greater prominence".
Additional WTA Award Recipients
- Comeback Player of the Year: Switzerland's Belinda Bencic, twenty-eight, received the award after taking 13-month break after the arrival of her daughter and returning to the sport earlier this season.
- Rookie of the Year: Canadian teenager Victoria Mboko received the award after starting the season ranked beyond the world's top 300 and soaring to the eighteenth spot.
- Partnership of the Year: Katerina Siniakova and Taylor Townsend earned the title after securing their second Grand Slam title as a pair.
- Biggest Leap of the Year: Amanda Anisimova was named after making five finals.
Recently, Carlos Alcaraz won three awards in the Association of Tennis Professionals (ATP) Awards, which included the year-end number one award, while Jannik Sinner was chosen as fans' favourite for a third time.
