The families of young people missing after a devastating inferno at a venue in a Switzerland's winter destination are enduring an agonising period of uncertainty for official news and pleading for information about their children online.
The inferno devastated the Le Constellation bar in the alpine resort, located in the Swiss Alps of the Valais region, in the middle of the night of January 1st. Confirmed images reveal the roof structure being engulfed in flames as beverages with fireworks are raised in celebration.
Emergency services have stated that it could take days if not weeks to identify the fatalities of the fire, which claimed the lives of 40 people and injured another 119. Authorities stated on the latest update that the majority of the injured have been identified, with efforts ongoing to identify the final individuals.
In the meantime, families and friends have been using the internet to plead for clues about their friends who were in attendance that fateful night.
The whereabouts of Swiss national Arthur Brodard, sixteen, are currently unknown, according to an appeal from his family.
The resident of a town near the city, informed a publication that she had returned to Lausanne to see if he was in the hospital, while his other parent did the same in the capital, but was unsuccessful.
"This is a living nightmare, a horror. Either I find my son in the hospital mortuary, or I find him in a serious state. It's terrible," she told the paper.
She added that some of his companions had been found with injuries covering a significant portion of their bodies. "It's indescribable; they went through hell."
The Italy's government has confirmed that a number of of its citizens have not been located.
One of those is Emanuele Galeppini, a 16-year-old junior golfer, originally from Italy but now living in Dubai.
The Italian Golf Federation has said that he is deceased, without mentioning the fire, paying tribute to a "young athlete who carried with him dedication and true sportsmanship."
His father, told media that his son was at the bar and was last heard from around the new year. An representative has clarified that a formal confirmation of his death is awaited.
Giovanni Tamburi, 16, is likewise unaccounted for. His parent explained that he had been on holiday but had ventured out with a group and found himself at the bar.
