Air travel have restarted at Scotland's primary international airport following a major technical issue at the control tower grounded all flights.

All aircraft movements were stopped after an IT issue that arose around 08:30.

Some passengers reported being stuck in jets at the stand during the disruption.

Services Recommence with Residual Impact

The airport confirmed at 10:40 that operations had restarted, and thanked passengers for their "understanding and cooperation".

Nonetheless, significant disruption are anticipated to persist for some time. Flights to key destinations like Amsterdam, Frankfurt, London, and Bristol have been cancelled, with numerous other services facing hold-ups.

A spokesperson had previously estimated that a significant number of movements could be affected.

"Flyers are asked to contact their airlines for the current status on their specific flights," officials reiterated.

Source of the Issue

The airport attributed the full ground stop to an systems failure with its ATC service provider.

Flyers should still plan to confirm the details of their trip before departing to the airport as backlogs are worked through.
